Williamsburg Boudoir Photographer: What Should I Wear?

Hi friends!

Today I want to share with you one of my favorite aspects of boudoir photography: celebrating the uniqueness of you. When we step foot on set together, we step into a world that you create with your personality, your energy, and your style. That’s what makes your images come alive, and I love helping you capture it.

Now, let’s talk about that style note for a moment today. So many of you begin your boudoir journey feeling nervous about what kind of outfits you should bring and how you will feel in those outfits with a camera lens on you. I know it can all feel a bit overwhelming! So, I’m here to help simplify the style component a bit so you can feel like the most authentic version of yourself when we work together.

What should you wear for your boudoir photography shoot?

First, I recommend packing an outfit that fits your usual style. If you’re not typically into lingerie, that’s okay! You’d be amazed by how sexy you can look in boudoir photos with virtually any outfit or accessory. Consider a silky robe, an off-the-shoulder top, bulky sweater, a men’s white button-up shirt, a blanket… anything that instantly makes you feel comfy.

Second, try pulling a total 180 on yourself and pack an outfit that you would never typically consider wearing. Sometimes playing dress-up in this way can help you shake off your nerves, see yourself in an entirely new light, and feel encouraged to get a little creative with your photographer. Worst case scenario: You pack it and opt to not wear it. No biggie.

Third, it’s always good to have a couple of classic pieces, like a black or nude bra and panty set. Their simplicity allows your body to be the true canvas of the photos, making it easier for us to experiment with poses, lighting, moods, and more. And practically speaking, the simpler an outfit is, the less you’ll feel inclined to adjust it and fidget with it while the camera is clicking.

Meanwhile, don’t hesitate to bring a handful of options with you! It’s unlikely that you’ll change wardrobes more than a few times, but it doesn’t hurt to overpack. You never know…  the set might inspire a certain mood, you might end up preferring one outfit over another in a way that surprises you, or your photographer might think that one top you almost left at home would look amazing in the room’s lighting.

Don’t forget the shoes!

Oh, and the jewelry. These accents can really pull an image together and add a sexy flair to any ordinary lingerie set.

In the end, you should wear what inspires love and confidence in yourself! That is the sexiest accessory of all, and no boudoir shoot is truly complete without it. If you feel good in it, you’re going to rock it — it’s that simple.
