Hey, Hey, Wedding Planners! I love keeping up with how each of your weddings are developing and what questions are popping up! For today’s Tuesday Tip I have talked to a few of my super cool, party-driven DJ’s for some insight into Caitlyn’s question:: “My fiance is having a difficult time selecting a song to use during the Mom-Son Dance at our reception. Do you have any advice on good ones?”
Thank you for the question, Caitlyn! And, yes! We do have a list of special songs that are the perfect fit for the Mother Son Dance at a reception. 🎉
But, before we blast into the list I wanted to touch on a couple of things.
- Having attended 100s of weddings in my wedding photography career, I want to note that the First Dances (i.e. Couples First Dance, Father Daughter Dance, and the Mother Son Dance) are incredibly important and touching moments. While there is certainly a list of commonly used songs, take a little time to sit down with your fiance, mother, or father and think about the material of your relationship. What formed it? What holds it together? Are there moments or songs that hold meaning or value to the two of you? This dance doesn’t need to be to a song that anyone will appreciate other than the two of you.
- Oftentimes it is assumed that the Mother Son Reception dance will be slow. Keep in mind that there are no rules here. 😁 If you and your mom have some dancing skills, bring it!! Create memories for you and your guests.
- Length of the song is always a consideration when selecting First Dance music. Pick a song that is meaningful or that you love. Do not worry about the length. A good DJ can fade the song appropriately to shorten its length.
