Dogs in Weddings: Our Top Tips for Incorporating a Furry Best Friend into Your Special Day!

Dogs in Weddings, Happy Puppy

You share your life with them; so naturally you would want to make them a part of the most important day of your life. We understand! We LOVE it when your wedding photography includes furry family friends. Here are a few things you should keep in mind to keep things running smoothly and surprises to a minimum when you incorporate a dog into your Knoxville wedding:

Assign someone to be in charge of your pooch. This should NOT be the bride or groom. An animal-loving family member who is comfortable handling your dog works great! They can still hand them over when it’s time for family portraits.

If your dog is going to be part of your processional, be sure someone has given them plenty of exercise, and time to go to the bathroom. They might also plan to arrive early enough to allow your dog to get familiar with the space before your other guests arrive. This leaves less chance for wild surprises that can happen when you have a dog in your wedding.

Have a pup that can be wary of strangers or large groups? Consider bringing them along for the engagement photos or include them in some of your preparation photos instead. You still get picture perfect memories preserved with less stress on everyone.

A pet to standing in for the flower girl or ring bearer during the processional can be totally adorable! But unless they are seriously calm and obedient, it’s best to have them quietly led away during the ceremony so that the bride and groom remain the center of attention. Trust us on this one!

Are you planning a rustic, boho Nashville wedding, or an equestrian style Knoxville wedding? We’ve seen everything from llamas to horses incorporated into a couple’s special day. As long as the animal has an assigned caretaker, they can be great fun and create wedding photographs you’ll cherish for a lifetime!
