Williamsburg Boudoir Photographer: 4 Craveworthy Textures to Try in Your Boudoir Shoot

Hey ladies!

I’ve gotta say — the more boudoir sessions I photograph, the more I fall in love with them. Every single detail seems to radiate energy, capturing magical glimpses of the individuals who take center stage in each image. It seriously lights a fire in my soul! 🔥
The boundaries of beauty are none. 🔥
Today, I’m talking about adding texture to your boudoir session. From backdrop and location to lingerie and angel wings, (yesssssss!!)  what we can create together is truly endless.

So, the question is this: What lights your fire? Let’s make it happen.

It’s wild how a simple choice of loveseat fabric or lingerie material can help create the mood and movement of the images. From sultry to sensitive to playful to otherworldly, texture is truly transformative.

As you think on what kind of vibe you want your boudoir photographs to embrace, consider the following textures and how they might fit into your unique vision.

Fishnet

Few things scream “sexy” the way a pair of fishnet stockings do when paired with spiky black pumps and nothing else. It also lends itself so well to the alluring contrast of black and white photography, feeling both classic and timeless. But don’t be afraid to try fishnet elsewhere in your outfits, too — the intentional peekaboo pattern on a corset, bodysuit, or crop top creates that same fiery mood.

Fur

From rugs to throws to epic coats, there is just something so luxe about fur. It’s the perfect balance of classy and suggestive, and it’s oh-so-cozy and fun to work with on the set. Fur also adds that tactile element to your photographs where you just can’t help but want to reach out and touch it as if it’s going to jump right out of the image and into your hands.

Leather

Leather is a power texture to me. It’s dominant, it’s strong, it’s bold, and frankly, it’s badass. If you want to walk away from your session feeling seriously empowered, pack a leather item or two in your boudoir style bag. From jackets to shoes to detailed lingerie pieces, you really can’t go wrong. Leather also makes for phenomenal black and white images.

Feathers

You guys… feathers are bold and majestic and help you morph into a totally different creature in your boudoir photographs. In fact, our set of angel wings is one of my favorite accessories to play with in our studio. Every client rocks them in their own unique way, and you can feel their confidence soar the second they put them on. If you’re at all into fantastical vibes, seriously consider adding feathers in some form to your session.

Which textures speak most to you in boudoir photography? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
