Hi friends!
Today I want to walk through one of the most fun aspects of boudoir photography: getting all glammed up! Most of my collections include professional makeup artistry ahead of your photoshoot for a couple of reasons. First, it ensures that my camera will capture some seriously powerful images of you. (Did you know the lens can wash out up to 40 percent of your natural color?) And second, it takes the pressure off of you to do your own makeup flawlessly before taking center stage. I know some folks are amazing at contouring, highlighting, and concealing, but most of us would rather have the help.
So, when it comes to the application itself, you really don’t have to worry about your makeup. What I would have you do, however, is consider the style of makeup you would like ahead of our session. Here are a few tips for landing your perfect boudoir look.
Collect some inspiration photos.
Take to Pinterest and Instagram to do a little boudoir makeup research before we meet for your photoshoot, and see what stands out to you. Collect the images that inspire you most, either on your own board or with screenshots, and bring these images with you to your makeup styling session. By having some clear examples in hand, you can help guide the makeup artist toward a look that feels like you and will leave you feeling plenty confident to strike your poses.
Go a little more glam than you do on a daily basis.
Now, the makeup artist will likely have a heavier hand than you usually do with your makeup, and they might even use products that provide fuller coverage. My advice: Trust the makeup artist here. When they’re done with your look, you want it to be a bit more intense than your usual style because it’s going to give the camera the color and drama it needs to capture. So if your cheeks look extra rosy or your fake eyelashes look a little long, go with it 😉 You won’t be disappointed by the final product.
Highlight your favorite feature.
When you arrive on set and sit in the makeup artist’s chair, do let them know which features you love most about your face so they can work their magic to accentuate them for your photoshoot! For instance, if you love the depth of your blue eyes, they can pick eyeshadow tones and shapes that make them really glow in your images. Or if you’re all about your smile, don’t be afraid to go bold and request a louder lip color to highlight your pearly whites. These photographs are all about celebrating what you love most about yourself, so use makeup as a tool to make them as powerful as possible.
I can’t wait to see what makeup style you choose for your photoshoot! In the meantime, feel free to browse my other boudoir blogs for some look inspiration as well. 🖤
