Hi friends!
While there is nothing more timeless than a classic collection of boudoir photographs, I want to encourage all you lovelies out there who recently scheduled a shoot or are this close to doing so to get a little creative with your session. Using a theme to tie all of your images into the present moment or two one of your favorite hobbies or pastimes can be an amazing way to add even more meaning to them. Plus, it pretty much guarantees that your photographs will feel totally unique to you and the lucky person you decide to share them with (who can be yourself, too!).
And don’t worry — you can always have that classic photoshoot as well. Who says you can only enjoy a boudoir session once?!
Below are a few of my favorite ways to theme a boudoir photoshoot.
Holiday
The energy of the holidays is such a fun thing to capture with a camera lens! And if we’re talking about the upcoming winter festivities specifically, your choices of sets, props, warm and cozy fabrics, and pretty prints are virtually endless. Plus, you can have so much fun with themed outfits in these shoots as well.
In fact, if you’re thinking about giving a holiday theme a try, consider signing up for one of my Christmas boudoir mini sessions on December 6 — I still have a few spots left! The experience includes professional hair and makeup, 25 minutes of photography with two quick outfit changes, digital image access, and a phone consultation about prints and albums all for $225. Talk about an awesome gift for yourself or your special someone.
Sporty
Have you or your partner followed the same sports teams since you could walk? Is tuning into the big game one of your favorite ways to spend time together? Then consider bringing that passion into your boudoir shoot! Team tees and jerseys pair perfectly with more casual lingerie, making for images that are both sexy and playful. And this theme can make picking out any props a super easy process.
Hubby’s Interests
Bring the things that your partner likes into your session. Take a moment to think through what makes your partner tick. Football, hunting, watching you dance? Is he a firefighter or a pilot? Does he wear a tie to work each day? Let’s get creative in incorporating these themes into your session. What a surprise these images will be!
Retro
If you’re someone who has always felt as though they were born in the wrong decade, you can use this photography shoot as your chance to time travel a bit and document the experience! Bring in the styles of your favorite decade — outfits, hair, makeup, the works. We can even play with sets, lighting, and music to really transport you to your dream retro scene. Talk about a fun, creative session!
Vintage
Are you obsessed with all these centuries old? From beautiful antique finds to period dramas on Netflix to a well-aged bottle of fine wine, there is just something so special about preserving what once was. And you can bring that same vintage element to your boudoir set! From artfully curated lace to a fun furniture set that feels like it belongs in Downton Abbey, a few special touches is all it takes to bring a modern woman into her favorite era.
Bridal
If you’re looking for the ultimate intimate gift to hand to your partner on your wedding day, consider a bridal boudoir session! Grab your wedding night and honeymoon lingerie, and give them a little sneak peek of what’s to come, all packaged beautifully in a petite album paired with a handwritten love note. Plus, these photographs will give you one more amazing way to remember one of the most special days of your life and how you felt as you looked toward the future with your favorite person.
How would you go about adding a theme to your boudoir photoshoot? I’d love to read about your creative process in the comments below!
Be fierce, friends.
